The Tiuraniemi / Hookana Family Association

Kärppä - Oinas - Tiuraniemi -Family

 

The Tiuraniemi / Hookana Family Association was founded in 1999 in Rovaniemi. The members are descendants of Nils Petter Tiuraniemi (1826-1885). The Association is located in Rovaniemi. The first known father of the family is Pekka Karppa. His son Pekka Karppa moved from Muhos to Kemijarvi about 1620. Juho Karppa moved in 1790 to the Oinas house and took his lastname according the house. Nils Petter Oinas moved in 1872 to Jaatila near Rovaniemi and took his name as Tiuraniemi / Hookana. Two of his sons moved to America. Mikko and Kalle moved to Michigan in 1879. Mikko is known as Michael Hokana and Kalle as Kalle Hogan.

The history of the family is written in the family book, which was published in 1999.
