DESCRIPTION OF THE ETS METHOD

Epitope-type-specificity (ETS) EIA reveals the time point of infection by comparison of antibody reactivity with tertiary vs. primary structure of a parvovirus B19 protein (VP2). IgG antibodies for the tertiary structure of this protein are maintained through life in contrast to antibodies for the primary structure, which are confined to the acute phase and early convalescence after infection (#3). We have recently identified an immunodominant epitope of 7 amino acids (heptapeptide) that accounts for most of the acute-phase specificity of the ETS phenomenon, and have set up a 2nd-generation ETS EIA for improved diagnosis of infections by human parvovirus B19 (#1).
