GREETING BY ACCC KRISTINA ROTHE AT AREA CONVENTION 2007 IN LAPPEENRANTA
As the Area Convention Committee Chairman I would like to start by wishing all participants to the 16th Area Convention a warm welcome and I hope we will enjoy our time here in Lappeenranta.When Region F/B accepted the task to arrange AC 2007 I have to admit that it was after a lot of persuasion from the Area council as it had been 14 years since the Region had last arranged the Area Conference. It is not an easy task for a small Region and F/B is actually the smallest at the moment. None the less I can assure you that the Region is still going strong and growing and the Host committee has worked long and hard so that everyone will enjoy this conference.
As the Conference motto the HC chose "Y`s Men building bridges" and these words we shall put into action during this conference. We are also very happy to have been able to arrange a Youth Convocation and that so many youngsters could participate. I believe that during the Youth Convocation many bridges will also be built.
Last night we started with a Get together party, where all Regions were asked to participate with their own performance. The theme for the evening was "Echoes in the deep forests". In Finnish "Tuonne taakse metsämaan". I am sure Area Europe heard the echoes from the Regions!...
The motto was also taken into consideration when the keynote speakers were chosen. They will be introduced later by Jaakko Koikkalainen, gen.secr. Of YMCA in Finland.
It is customary that during the Area Conference all members will get information about what is going on in our organisation. We have chosen four Forum with different topics, which are TOF, ASF/YMCA, BF/IBC and Extension. All four Forums will be lead by Area officers and you will have time to participate in two Forums during one hour either in English or Scandinavian.
During last Area Conference in Västerås 2005 all participants were put into discussion groups with the topic "What we do in our club". This year we have divided you into groups in a similar manner but taken it one step further and made a questionnaire with topics for discussion . All groups will have a leader and you can already familiarise yourselves with the questions, which are in the programme. I will collect the answers and summarise them tomorrow.
I will believe that it is both important and interesting for all participants to get new ideas and to hear what other clubs are doing.
